Campus Election: Captive Mind

I never write about my campus in any of my previous posts, (as long as I remember), and this will be the first.

UTP is a very small campus. The politics of UTP is so super duper lame, as only a small portion of the students aware and trying to take part of it. But, to make it more interesting, there is a group of people who are only aware of campus politics(after a year of focusing to something else) only during the campus election.

The same issue every year, they claimed that Rakan Masjid is the one who conquer MPPUTP. Well, they also use highly intellectual (from their point of view) such as captive mind. They blame everyone, they blame cronyism, they blame everything that pops up into their mind.

They want change, they push for democracy, which is good btw, but sadly, they want changes while they can blog and chat without needing to do anything. They want the change to come spontaneously. They want change, but they never change.

Well, my friend, as a senior, (I will be final semester student very soon) let me talk for the others who sometimes feel that you guys are talking too much.

First of all, I have to admit that the previous MPP President, is my junior and my close friend. I know him well, very well.

He had done a tremendous work during his time. He pushed for study week, which helped us to having a few days break before the exams start. He also pushed and fought for the welfare of CM affected students, which results to change of CM policy.

He did all this with his effort and determination to see a better UTP. He did this without writing a single blog post.

In fact, previous MPPs done a great job. Parkings, futsal courts and etc are just a few contribution of previous MPPs. Us? Just blaming and condemning MPP for not doing anything.

Well, this is what we call change. You want change? You NEED TO START THE CHANGE.

Captive mind prevents us to do so. Captive mind always make us to think that everything will be the same and criticizing without doing anything is the best policy. Well, keep doing that, if you prefer, but stop blaming others on your on ‘captive mind’.

I will change this time. I will vote for Jenani, the only bold non-malay to contest for the top posts.

And I will never blame Rakan Masjid.

ABDUL HADI BIN ALIAS
ex-President
SRMUTP 08.

Guilty as charged of only being aware of campus politics during election season. :?

As a person who was in MPP previously, I could never shake the feeling that nearly everything we did was either being:

    a. ignored by students, or
    b. criticized by students.

I don’t deny that every board of the MPP serves to their fullest capability as student leaders. Maybe sometime ago we messed up somewhere in our duty as the MPP, we made a mistake towards the students, I don’t know.

But I know this: for all our efforts as MPP, then and now, people generally still don’t see us as something that’s useful or helpful to them.

I only regret it took me this long to realize that MPP could be better off if we didn’t just criticize, but also provide feedback and alternative solutions that could be pursued for the students’ greater good.

And no one said it better than Michael Jackson himself, in ‘Man in the Mirror’:

“If you wanna make the world a better place
take a look at yourself and make the change.”

Biggest room in the world is the room for improvement! I know I’ve not long to go in UTP before graduating, but better late than never right? :D

    Cheers,
    Jared

    P.S. Well-written post!

hi there. I’m one of the affected student with the CM policy last semester. I admitted that it is my fault that I cannot achieve an outstanding result in my study and I learned my lesson. But then, I suffered a lot. I’m not from a really ‘good-economy’ family background and it’s really hurt myself to ask more money to my parents every month. I learned to cut my budget, to make a savings and I learned to improve my studies. After I heard that SRC has fought for the CM matters, I was so relieved to see my first monthly allowance is in my account again. To be honest, I don’t care about UTP SRC at all since I was in my first year. I don’t even know our leader’s name and so on. People are talking about them, and I don’t appreciate their existence at all. Looking at my friends that join events in UTP sometimes make me annoyed, as there are so busy but they don’t get anything (except for certificates?!). But after my ‘hell period’ there, I learned to accept other people, I learned to appreciate student’s organization. I understand that anybody is free to critic others and to be criticized.

And, everyone is actually still, at the learning stage, where sometimes, we do not understand enough, do not know enough, the person that we critic. We claim that we really know and understand the situation happened but what is the prove that we do really2 understand? No need to prove to others, just prove to ourselves.

Me, still, at the learning stage, would like to appreciate the works done by previous SRM and also by those who didn’t support them ( as the critics is also improving the leader’s quality actually, leaders learned to accept those critics, and improvise). Till now, I don’t even care who are those people giving their manifesto to be the SRM, but I’m looking for the improvement and changes that will be done for the students. It is the game of life, where some people might accept it, some people don’t.

And I don’t want to expect SRM or any other student’s body to change my academics result anymore, it is me who will change my academic performance. Same goes to another things, I don’t expect SRM to change my beloved UTP to become a better place, it is me who will take the first action to make my life in UTP becoming better day by day. No one else, it is me who will improve, and I hope, it goes same to you too~

Have a nice day everyone ^_^

This actually just not been done by him alone.. there’s previous MPP who gone up and down of KLCC meeting with Ms Fauziah. And, just a luck Ms Fauziah retired this year. Well, lecturers also helped out. Nevertheless, we must admit that he also contributed his part.

Most of the facilities were proposed long before them. But, again, during their time the facilities are approved. So, credit goes to them? Pity for those who fought it hard back then. huhu..

Yes, I do see the importance of having MPP. People never satisfy and we can never satisfy them. If a Prime Minister was to satisfy ALL demands of the citizen, the country will go down~ trust me~ :)

    Credit to previous MPP

    2. Farouqi is the President. MPP should get the same credit as he did.

    1) klu btul ikhlas, x payah ckp apa yg dh dibuat. yg x dapat mcm isu CM, study week, truskan utk dptkannya. adeke pemimpin cepat beralah?? kelakar jugk org disini rupanya.

2)pemimpin pun x bleh static, bersenang lenang dgn apa yg dh dapat. bru dapat court n parking dah rasa mcm cukup buat kerja. (jangan pernah kita rasa cukup dgn apa yg kita lakukan, tp tnya, apa lagi yg perlu kita lakukan, tmbh2 klu *kita* ni pemimpin.)

3)Org pilih pemimpin sebb percaya. pemimpin diangkat sbb undi org. SO, balance laa klu org blame pemimpin kan!!! isu tu x pelru timbul spttnya sbb org paham memg biasnya pemimpin kena blame. So,pemimpin x bleh statik. spttnya,Klu org still blame pemimpin, pemimpin still kena berubah. tujuan kami memilih pemimpin memg sebb utk memperjuangkan apa yg kami mahukan. so, klu pemimpin x buat, kami desak sbb kami undi dia utk itu. x sedar dirilah pemimpin yg suruh kami yg mengundi ni pulak berubah (change). seolah2, kami yg kena buat kerja utk pemimpin. wakut pilih pemimpin kena pilih dia, waktu kerja dia x jalan, suruh kitorg berubah.

I’m not condemning, but i’m just giving my opinion. Macam lemah je leader UTP. Kawan aku yg dr YDP MPP Malaysia pun x pernh mengeluh kena kritik. relaxx je dia aq tgk. dan matang.

    1. Study and CM: What’s your point? I am not MPP.
    2. Parking and Futsal: Still does not get your point.
    3. Apa yang kamu mahu MPP perjuangkan?
    4. My point is, critics must come with action or at least suggestion. Or at least vote.(if you are not bold enough to contest for the seat to do the changes yourself)

Last point is, I am not MPP.

it is all about commitment. and how you interact with students. the hi-com especially, you can’t just simply sit in the room and wait for the students or your committees to deliver everything to you. Berjiwa rakyat skit.

And one more thing, be matured. i agree with imran. Im not blaming any parties like RM or something but the management in the organization. Be efficient and think out of the box. Perhaps we need to have multi-racial hicoms so that we learn how other people do. Yes, we already have that but why dont we make it more variety.

  10. ibnalias Says:

    Nas:

Jenani won. The first non-muslim to be selected as hicom. But, still, she is pro-RM?
    Nice~

  11. ibnunawawi Says:

Imran, i think, people need to be informed of what their leader had done…or else they would say that the leaders had done NOTHING…it’s not about showing off…but more to inform them…

to Imran, what have you done ek for the sake of UTP n the students??? just wonder..have you ever seen them “melatah”???have you ever asked them about what they have done???

hahaha..i’m not condemning you…teringat la satu kisah…tak silap masa pemerintahan saidina Ali…ketika waktu agak huru-hara…seorang rakyat bertanya, kenapa situasi negara Islam sekarang tidak sama seperti di zaman pemerintahan Nabi saw dahulu???aman damai….lalu saidina Ali berkata, “kerana di zaman Nabi saw, umatnya adalah seperti aku…dan sekarang, umat Islam adalah seperti kamu”…

lesson from this thing, revise back ourselves…what have we done before we look for other’s fault??? if you think our leader is weak, that’s mean that they have a weak community like YOU because act just like I-Talk…”cakap bnyk, kerja kurang”…hahaha..jgn marah…n where did you know that your friend is never “mengeluh”?? 24/7 ke Imran stay dgn die???

kayla…pada MPP yg dh menang, do your job wisely…for about two years I’d collaborated wif different line-up of MPP, I knew what all of you had done…keep your good work up…take those “nasihat” from them positively n convert them to your action…

Action should speak louder than words….

    Salam,

As an ex-MPPUTP, i’m astonished but proud to see this kind of thinking spreads all over the blogrolls.

    Why?
    - my concern is just whatever you all are saying please be aware UTP is just a business product, which subsequently has nothing in terms of “student power” to achieve what u all want. If u all want pure democracy, just don’t be a UTP student, be a Malaysian otherwise.
    - also read Rausyanfikir, all sort of captive mind whatsoever, hope you all will maintain this revolutionist-like zest after u finish your study. Stop thinking in a nutshell, think from a bigger view. remember UTP is just a business arm, revolution never succeed in a business atmosphere.
    - whatever the outcome is, MPP is just to serve student. Bloody hell to talk on revolution. What? you want to cancel out TEC so that god damn revolutionist student can go out and be a pure street demonstrator? Being a MPP for one term made me feel it’s UTP who victimize MPP, in order to filter out the hatred of student to this capitalism effect such as CM whatsoever, and yes they succeed!! MPP themselves always serve to the limit, jeopardizing their time without single cent payments for the sake of super-extra-unaware UTP students to get good job outside!! and thanks God after they got the 4-5 digits salary they will be obviously thanking TEC for the success of this event.
    - Stop this MPP revolution for a while, please revolutionize students to vote first. In this MPP election I think RM has done a good job on attracting people to vote. Each party has their own view on their idealism. But only a vote does matter!! Without vote, who dares to say this UTPians want a revolution? Nonsense!

    HI everyone!!!
Just a question. Do you know that jenani will leave UTP next June 2010 for internship and MPP will be ruled by those 4 people ONLY?
Just a queation to ponder. :P

I am very interested to see how you quote things. “the only bold non-malay”. it is obvious that you have been living in a nutshell since the beginning already. during the previous MPPUTP 2008/2009 Campus Election, Adonis Singh was one of the candidate, who happened to be a non-Malay. And guess what happened? A group of people (mind here, I am not blaming any organizations or party, but to the group of people itself) simple kicked Adonis out of the election campaign, but trying very hard to object him during the objection period, sabotaging him during the whole election campaign by removing his posters & string banners, personal-attacking him during the manifesto night. And it’s so obvious that who are behind all of this (mind i say who, not what).

THerefore, please think about it all over again because this has been happening since the past few years, and people are tired about it (mind that people are no longer voting in the election because they’re kind of knew who are going to win anyways, so what’s the point of voting then?).

    w’salam.

At least give us the prove if u want to blame somebody. U r ex MPP n have cheated the students a lot. u know what u have done isn’t it? After what u’ve done, do u think people will bliv u?

It’s not just Adonis’s posters, I’ve seen many of the candidate’s posters on the floor. In this PRK for example, all candidates endured the same thing. dun juz exaggerate the facts.

but why the improvement u stated just in v5???
    futsal court, CM students, parking…
i think better called that improvement for their own needs only, don’t u think so???
what did they do for foundation student especially male???
u better go to v6 and tell what had mpp done to improvise

n yeah komen mmg untuk membina, bukan mengutuk.mereka yg mengutuk, tak takut ke dikeji tuhan?dahla xbtol.buat fitnah pulakkk.aku bukan baik sangat, tapi kalo benda ni basic sangat.yes people hav rite to talk, tapi biar ada asas, dalil.zmn ni sangat byk fitnah.aku pon same tapi skrg aku ada sikit insaf haha,so aku igtkan diri aku dan semua.

jangan buat fitnah, kata itu kata ini, tanpa bukti, sbb benda tu buat kita lg tggi asabiyah.berpecah la sng.kalo nk mintak jwpn leklok.cari punca fitnah ni.sape yg mula2 buat fitnah ni,tanyalah dia mana bukti.

paling penting, apa yg kita cari sbenarnya dari pergaduhan ni?jangan sbb kita nk tnjuk bagus, igt kita betol, kita igt kita buat baik.padahal malaikat da siap sedia tulis kat sebelah kiri.

dari kami:bukan anti mpp dan anti rm,tapi anti sikap umat2 yang bercakap tanpa bukti.kemukakan bukti.belajar sejarah rome.jangan jadi mcm hitler.
